Amur Tiger Cubs Born at the Baku Zoological Park

The Amur tiger is the largest of all tiger subspecies. It is considered the third-largest terrestrial predator in the world after the polar bear and the brown bear. Its natural range is primarily located in the Russian Far East and northeastern China. Currently, this species is listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List and is also included in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that the Baku Zoological Park plays an important role in nature conservation and the preservation of biodiversity. The Park’s primary mission is to conserve, breed, and reintroduce into the wild animal species that are listed in the Red Data Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan, whose populations are declining or are under threat of extinction.

Thus, the populations of the Red Data Book species such as the Red Deer and the Goitered Gazelle, as well as the East Caucasian Tur and the Indian Crested Porcupine, have been successfully increased within the Zoological Park and subsequently returned to their natural habitats.
