Its natural range includes the tropical forests, swamps and mountainous areas of South and Southeast Asia, South and Central America, as well as equatorial Africa. It is most often found in the dense forests of India, Malaysia and the Amazon basin.
Black panthers are dark-colored individuals of the big cats of the panther genus, and this color is the result of a genetic mutation called melanism. They are not a separate species; The black variation of the species commonly known as the Leopard (Panthera pardus) or Jaguar (Panthera onca). For example, about half of the leopards in Malaysia are black, indicating that this genetic trait is widespread in some regions. In dense, humid, and poorly lit tropical forests, being dark is advantageous for them, as it makes them less noticeable and allows them to approach prey silently. Interestingly, although their skin appears completely black, when viewed carefully under light, the spotted patterns can still be seen, which does not hide their true origin.
