Semi-desert, savanna, and dry foothill regions of Central Asia, North and East Africa, and the Middle East.

Caracal typically live solitary lives and interact with other individuals only during the mating season. One of the main morphological features of the species is their large black ears, which enhance hearing and are also used for communication. With their long and powerful legs, black-eared animals can leap up to 3 meters high and catch prey in mid-air. They feed on small mammals and birds across a range of habitats, from savannas to semi-desert areas.
