Goitered gazelles get their name from the large bump on their throats. While fleeing from danger, they rely on their speed that can reach up to 60 km/h. Previously abundant in Azerbaijan, gazelles suffered drastic reductions in population in the 1960s, due to illegal hunting and habitat destruction. Luckily, the status of the species in Azerbaijan has rebounded from the brink of extinction and is now steadily growing, as a result of regional conservation efforts.
