This animal species belongs to the family Cervidae (deer), order Artiodactyla (even-toed ungulates), class Mammalia (mammals). In Azerbaijan, it is found in the forests of the southern foothills of the Greater Caucasus, the Lesser Caucasus, and the Talysh Mountains.
