In Azerbaijan, it covers the coastal waters of the Caspian Sea, the Lankaran, Kur-Araz and Samur-Devachi lowlands, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and in the world it extends to the corresponding regions of Europe, Asia and Africa.

The Dalmatian Pelican is known by this name because of the curly feathers on its head. It usually settles and nests near large lakes or in wetlands with dense hydrophyte cover. When threatened, it displays defensive behavior by fully opening its wings and making high-pitched calls. It can hold about 3 liters of water in its skin sac located in the throat. These social birds hunt in groups by crowding schools of fish. They feed on an average of 1.2 kilograms of fish per day.
