Found around swamps and water bodies in Azerbaijan (especially Lankaran and the Kur-Araz lowlands), northwestern Europe and Africa, Central Asia and the northern parts of the Middle East.
The Western marsh harrier preys on waterfowl, reptiles, amphibians and small mammals by making repeated, slow and periodic flights over water bodies and marshes while searching for food. During the mating season, males display spectacular flight displays to attract females. They build their nests in areas with dense vegetation, where there is both an abundance of food sources and favorable conditions for the protection of the eggs.
