The pink pelican is a large water bird belonging to the pelican family. Its most characteristic feature is its long, yellowish beak and a flexible, pink throat pouch located underneath. This pouch is used to trap fish by filtering water while fishing. The main part of its feathers is light pink with a white tinge, and the wing tips are black. Pink pelicans live in large flocks and settle around water bodies. They mainly hunt fish in groups: several individuals form a circle, drive fish into shallow water and catch them simultaneously with their beaks. During feeding, one pelican can eat up to 1.5–2 kg of fish per day.
