20 squirrels bred in the Baku Zoological Park were released into «Genjlik Park»

As part of the "Green World Solidarity Year," on October 29, a tree planting campaign was held in the "Genclik" park in the Khatai district of Baku, with the participation of the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder and chairperson of the "IDEA" Public Union Leyla Aliyeva, and the head of the Baku Media Center, Arzu Aliyeva.

The tree planting campaign, organized by the "Regional Development" Public Union of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the volunteers of "IDEA," as well as students from the European School in Azerbaijan, saw the planting of 600 Eldar pine saplings.
It should be noted that the "Genclik" park was created by the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Covering an area of 43 hectares, the park includes green strips as well as recreational and entertainment areas.
Furthermore, during the event, as part of the "Urban Ecology" project of the "IDEA" Public Union, 20 squirrels bred in the Baku Zoo were released into the "Genclik" park. The "Urban Ecology" project is focused on the conservation and restoration of fauna species that are characteristic of urban environments and were once widespread. One of the goals of releasing the squirrels in this area is to allow them to naturally reproduce in the "Genclik" park.
In the past, the city of Baku was home to numerous squirrels and parrots, which freely roamed the parks and green areas among people. However, due to environmental issues at the end of the last century, their numbers sharply declined. In recent years, due to large-scale greening and landscaping works, including the efforts of the "IDEA" Public Union, favorable conditions have been created in Baku for the restoration of many species of fauna, including by reducing the cases of illegal tree cutting and planting countless new trees.

The "IDEA" Public Union regularly organizes such ecological actions to raise public awareness, especially among the youth, about the importance of environmental protection and calls for joint efforts to combat ecological issues.
Citizens who encounter illegal tree-cutting incidents can report complaints and suggestions through the 1113 hotline or via mobile phones of the "IDEA" Public Union.
It is worth mentioning that the "1113 - Emergency Nature Assistance" hotline and mobile group were created in 2014 on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, the Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, founder, and chairperson of the "IDEA" Public Union, as part of the "No to Tree Cutting!" program. As a result of thousands of citizen complaints to this hotline, measures have been taken.
