Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world and are able to live both on land and in water. Thanks to the webbing between their toes, they are excellent swimmers and can remain in water for long periods, protecting themselves from predators. As social animals, capybaras usually live in groups of 10–20 individuals and communicate using a variety of vocal sounds. In addition, in some cases—especially during food shortages—they consume their own feces, which helps maintain intestinal microflora and enables more efficient digestion of fibrous foods.
