Endemic to the ridges of the Caucasus, the Eastern turs are found both in meadows and on rocky surfaces, as well as in wooded areas at an altitude of 800 to 4200 m above sea level. Since the 19th century, the tour population has declined significantly due to uncontrolled hunting. Like all mountain goats, they are excellent rock climbers.
