Found in the Amazon River basin of South America
It is one of the largest freshwater fish in the world with a length usually reaching 2 m and up to 3 m in some individuals. Arapaima can breathe the atmospheric air, rising for it to the water surface every 5-20 minutes. It is an active predator.
