Widely distributed in mountainous and forested areas of Central and Central Asia, China and Southeast Asia, to northern Vietnam.
Pheasants are mainly solitary. However, during the mating season, males actively compete with each other, trying to attract the attention of females with special dance movements and bright feathers. Sexual dimorphism is clearly observed within the species: males differ from females not only in their brightly colored plumage, but also in their larger body size, long tails, and sharp claws on their feet.
